Technical Standards

There are currently fourteen CHEM Technical Standards available dealing, in the main, with the issues of dimensional interfacing of various types of container with the equipment supplied by CHEM members. The full list of titles and a summary of each standard is given below:

  • TS 1 Stationary compactor rating criteria. 9 Pages. Provides definitions of basic elements of the compactor, calculation of charge box volume, cycle time and volume dislpacement. It also includes general manufacturing requirements and dimensional information for attachment to compactor containers. 
  • TS 2 10 cu.m. compacted waste container for lift off vehicle. 4 Pages. Gives a general view of a compacted waste container for use with skip loaders. It contains dimensional information for the container as well as for attachment to a static compactor.
  • TS 3 Container lifting lug criteria. 2 Pages. Dimensional information of a skip lifting lug and method of attachment to the skip.
  • TS 4 Safety aspects relating to static compactors and associated equipment. 4 Pages. Contains a summary of the safety requirements to be incorporated in the manufacture of compactors.
  • TS 5 15 cu.m. compacted waste container. 2 Pages. Similar content to TS2.
  • TS 6 Compaction containers for hook type units. 3 Pages. General infomation for their manufacture including dimensional information for attachment to a static compactor and suggested methods for secondary lock and door hold open device.
  • TS 7 Open top container to suit hook type units. 3 Pages. General overall dimensions and manufacturing information including door locking and secondary latches.
  • TS 8 Sub-frame specification for hook type units. 2 Pages. Manufacturing and dimensional information for the subframe for large containers for hook lift operation.
  • TS 9 Pinning bars and tubes for compaction containers. 1 Page. Dimensional information for attaching compaction containers to static compactors.
  • TS10 General arrangement of 11.5 cu.m. REL containers. 1 Page. Dimensional details for use with skip loaders. This standard require updating to include stabilisers to prevent forward tipping when loaded over the front.
  • TS 11 Lifting pocket criteria for front end loader containers. 1 Page. Provides dimensional information for the size and location of the lifting pockets for use with front end loaders.
  • TS 13 Subframe for small hook type units, 3 to 10 tonnes GVW. 1 Page. Contains similar information to TS8 but for small hook lift units.
  • TS 14 Standard specifications for skip containers. 9 Pages. Provides dimensional and manufacturing information for skips from 3 cu m to 20 cu m capacity.
  • TS 15 Load cells fitted to bin lifts. 4 Pages. Provides guidelines for the supply and installation of weighing and identification load cells to refuse collection vehicles
  • TS16 Vehicles for the collection and transportation of wastes in bulk.General requirements and safety requirements - Skip loaders. 21 pages. Provides information and guidance on the significant hazards related to the operation of skiploaders and follows up with a comprehensive account of the essential safety requirements and protective measures to be taken in their design and manufacture. The standard includes information to be provided by the manufacturer to the user and information on fitting. The annexes and appendix give diagrammatical information on travelling heights, procedures for calculating safe working loads and a safe working load plate.
